The Kennedy comments were made in the context
of a burgeoning middle class that felt all was right
in the world and things could only get better. That
status of the middle class is under attack and eroding
and the confidence and ability to consider things in
this way is diminishing. That ambience will probably never return in the same form and will probably be studied by students of history in order
to glean insight.
